It's not our favorite time of year, but tax season is here.
The history of taxation has taken a wild ride throughout its existence. For instance, if your home had more than two windows in England or Scotland in 1696, you paid a tax on each window. It was a way to tax wealthier people. Peter the Great, tsar of Russia required a beard tax. Wealthy men who refused to shave their beard paid a tax. Personal Income Tax in the United States was started during the Civil War as a way for the government to raise money.
